Regulating gene expression to achieve temporal precision

چکیده
Cellular response to a stimulus is often triggered by accumulation of an appropriate gene product up critical threshold. How cells regulate expression achieve precision in timing such responses question interest. Earlier work has shown that for stable product, constant rate provides minimum noise the time response, provided initial distribution degenerate. Here, we show this strategy no longer optimal if level drawn from non-degenerate distribution. We also discuss biological relevance finding.

Temporal precision of regulated gene expression
Important cellular processes such as migration, differentiation, and development often rely on precise timing. Yet, the molecular machinery that regulates timing is inherently noisy. How do cells achieve precise timing with noisy components? We investigate this question using a first-passagetime approach, for an event triggered by a molecule that crosses an abundance threshold and that is regul...
متن کاملHow people achieve their amazing temporal precision in interception.
People can hit rapidly moving balls with amazing precision. To determine how they manage to do so, we explored how various factors that we could manipulate influenced people's precision when intercepting virtual targets. We found that temporal precision was highest for fast targets that subjects were free to intercept wherever they wished. Temporal precision was much poorer when the point of in...
متن کاملA Sensemaking Experiment – Enhanced Reasoning Techniques to Achieve Cognitive Precision
The purpose of this research was to conduct a pilot study of techniques from Klein Associates and Cognitive Edge to improve military sensemaking, specifically in the area of Cognitive Precision – FSD defines it as the “collection and connection of the right dots”, i.e. relevant data. Several obstacles to cognitive precision were identified in the areas of seeing information (info overload, patt...
متن کاملMis-regulating segmentation gene expression in Drosophila.
We have used the hunchback (hb) gap-gene promoter to drive ectopic expression of the pair-rule genes fushi tarazu (ftz), even-skipped (eve) and hairy (h). Unexpectedly, flies transformed with such constructs are viable, despite spatial and temporal mis-regulation of pair-rule expression caused by the fusion genes. We show that fusion gene expression is transcriptionally regulated, such that ect...
متن کاملRegulating Gene Expression Using Optimal Control Theory
We described development of a novel genome-based model-driven strategy useful for regulating eukaryotic gene expression. In order to extract biologically meaningful information from a large volume of mRNA expression data, we built previously a PROmoter-Based Estimation (PROBE) model. The PROBE model allowed us to establish a quantitative relationship between transcription-factor binding motifs ...
